The President of Bolivia, Evo Morales, inaugurated on Tuesday the first Technological Institute of Lithium, in the department of Potosí, which will enable the training of specialists in the careers of Chemistry, Mechanics, Electricity, and Electronics.

The facility has 18 classrooms, practical, theoretical laboratories, and conference rooms, among other spaces, whose execution required an investment of 13 million Bolivians (almost two million dollars).

"We deliver the Technological Institute of Bolivian Lithium in Potosí for the training of young people. In specialized branches of potassium chloride, lithium carbonate, hydroxide, and lithium batteries at a higher and medium technical level," Morales said. Adding that, the main objective of this center is to achieve the technological independence of the country.

The Ministry of Energy affirms that, in the next five years, Bolivia will reach a production of more than 150,000 tons of soft metal salts with future industrial plants.

During the inauguration, the president presented the first electric vehicle built at the La Palca Lithium Battery Pilot Plant. This week, the signing of an agreement between Bolivian Lithium Deposits (YLB) and the national company Quantum Motors for the manufacture of electric vehicles is planned.

“With the heart full of joy and pride, we premiered the first vehicle assembled with Bolivian lithium in Potosí that will use energy from the lithium batteries of Palca, from the same department. We combine investment with education to advance Industrialization, ”Morales said in his Twitter account.

The YLB manager, Juan Carlos Montenegro, explained to the press that the executives of the Quantum Motors company will visit the facilities of the La Palca Lithium Battery Plant. Where the signing of an agreement to establish the sale of the product is expected. This plant can supply the manufacture of electric cars for Bolivia, Montenegro said.

Recently, Quantum Motors introduced the first electric car manufacturing in the country. The batch of 50 vehicles sold in less than a week. At present, the Quantum company imports lithium batteries from China for the manufacture of electric cars. However, with this alliance, experimental tests will be carried out so that the whole process takes place in the country.
